The only reason a camera crew would show up in my neighborhood? A crime report for the local 6 o'clock news.
Apparently a young woman who moved into the neighborhood last weekend was attacked in in her house while she was in the basement. After being stabbed 17 (!) times she fought the attacker off and is now in stable condition in the hospital with two punctured lungs and a perforated liver.
I walk by her house every day to and from work. This really bothers me.

I don't care what kind of a hurry you're in, when the sign says 'Don't Walk' that means don't fucking walk.

DCPD decided that they needed four squad cars to pull over one vehicle. (It was an SUV, it was 9pm, they blocked off the whole street.) At the same moment not more than 30 yards away, a full fireworks assault was being launched from Lincoln Park. Nobody seemed to have any problem with that.

I stopped by the not-so-Safeway on the way home from work. There were four police cruisers with their lights flashing. There were also two of those white unmarked police cars with lights in the windshield that were flashing as well. Two police officers were putting cuffs on a young woman next to the shopping cart return area. She didn't seemed fazed by the ordeal.
I walked past the scene and stepped inside. Safeway has two private security guards on duty at all times. One in a car that makes slow loops around the parking lot and one stationed inside by the front door. I asked the guard what was going on outside. She shrugged at me, "I don't know. I stay in here where there's air-conditioning."

So maybe you should just walk here instead.
