I Never Studied Marketing.

I'm still consistently baffled by yogurt at the store. Let's try and walk through this one slowly.

Okay, it's yogurt that comes in a tube, so it's tubular, which is like the shape a wave makes when you surf, and yogurt comes from milk which comes from a cow; therefore we have a picture of a cow wearing sunglasses and a bell riding a surfboard on a wave of milk and fruit pieces while holding Tuberz brand yogurt.

Did I get that right?

Lost in the Supermarket

I was in the dairy section of the grocery store, minding my own business and singing along with The Cure being broadcast over the PA. I was standing in front of the butter case, mesmerized by all of the different options (organic-unsalted-sweet cream-spreadable butter in a tub?) when I noticed this in the yogurt case.

And I realize that Pepe Le Pew is a beloved cartoon character, but maybe you should rethink a marketing campaign that puts a picture of a skunk on yogurt. Or really on any food product for that matter.

Conditioned.

I stopped by the not-so-Safeway on the way home from work. There were four police cruisers with their lights flashing. There were also two of those white unmarked police cars with lights in the windshield that were flashing as well. Two police officers were putting cuffs on a young woman next to the shopping cart return area. She didn't seemed fazed by the ordeal.
I walked past the scene and stepped inside. Safeway has two private security guards on duty at all times. One in a car that makes slow loops around the parking lot and one stationed inside by the front door. I asked the guard what was going on outside. She shrugged at me, "I don't know. I stay in here where there's air-conditioning."
